OUR WORK

BLACK SHEEP FAMILY FUND THREE CORE PILLARS

Our dedication to fostering a thriving community is fundamental to our mission. Through the Black Sheep Family Fund, we channel our passion for hospitality into meaningful initiatives that extend beyond our restaurants, creating a positive and lasting impact on the lives of many. Our approach to community engagement is built upon distinct areas of focus, ensuring our efforts are both impactful and far-reaching.

STRATEGIC COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

Forging impactful three-year partnerships with local charities and NGOs, channelling resources into causes that align with our values.

FEEDING HONG KONG

As part of our commitment to the wider community and a shared mission of feeding people, not landfills, we have chosen to partner with local charity Feeding Hong Kong in an effort to drive all our funds raised in a singular direction to cause meaningful change.

We have committed to providing HK$3 million to a shared mission of reducing food waste in the city and feeding charities.

  • A one dollar donation is added to each receipt across Black Sheep restaurants to support Feeding Hong Kong’s mission to combat food waste and food insecurity in our city. Black Sheep commits to match every dollar donated, reinforcing the crucial work they do for the community at large.

  • The Bread Run is a food rescue programme where volunteers from across Black Sheep collect unsold bread, pastries, sandwiches and other baked goods from designated outlets across Hong Kong at the close of day. The items are consolidated and delivered to Feeding Hong Kong's warehouse for redistribution to charities.

  • From Sunday morning community runs, to silent auctions, to exclusive dining experiences, we leverage various events and partners to help spread awareness for our cause and achieve our fundraising goals. Involvement can range from providing financial contributions, to donating items for auctions, to product sponsorship.

  • At the height of the pandemic when our restaurants were shut and the city faced some of its darkest times, we worked with Feeding Hong Kong to redirect our efforts into providing warm meals to the elderly during a critical four-month period. To this day, our team of chefs get together every quarter to prepare, pack and deliver high-quality, nutritious meals to this same community.

CARE PAKISTAN

Black Sheep Founder Syed Asim Hussain sits on the Board of Directors for CARE Pakistan, an NGO committed to building schools and providing educational opportunities to underprivileged children in communities throughout the region. We have committed to donating HK$8 from each check at New Punjab Club to CARE. To date, we have raised HK$800,000.

KHALSA DIWAN SIKH TEMPLE

Black Sheep has a strong and celebrated South Asian contingent. Over the years, Black Sheep team members have actively participated in the community with their time and skills to support the work at Khalsa Diwan Sikh Temple, offering free vegetarian meals, known as langar, to anyone who walks through the doors regardless of faith or ethnicity. In 2022, the Black Sheep Family Fund donated HK$600,000 towards the renovation fund of the Khalsa Diwan Sikh Temple to support its extensive enhancement project.

GLOBAL EMERGENCY RELIEF

Arranging rapid fundraising activities for emergency relief in response to international disasters.

TURKEY & SYRIA EARTHQUAKE

In 2022, the Black Sheep Family Fund raised funds with a dollar-for-dollar match of donations to support the relief efforts in Pakistan after the catastrophic floods. Near and dear to Black Sheep Founder Syed Asim Hussain’s heart, Hussain attended school in Pakistan, with many of his family members still in the country. With overwhelming support from the community, our efforts raised over HK$600,000, with funds distributed to CARE Pakistan, Sab Saath and Unicef’s WASH program.

PAKISTAN FLOODS

Connected through humanity, the Black Sheep Family Fund has been at the forefront of leading emergency disaster relief in times of tragedy and need. In 2023, we raised HK$125,000 in our relief efforts for the devastation in Turkey and Syria, with funds distributed to three charities with real on-the-ground impact – Turkish Red Crescent, Syrian Arab Red Crescent and AHBAP.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Each quarter, a portion of Black Sheep profits goes into the Black Sheep Family Fund to provide essential funds for unforeseen emergencies or times of hardship. This financial assistance programme provides opportunities and peace of mind for members of our extended community network.
